Buttock Lift and Reshaping Options: Benefits and Risks

Treatment intended to lift or reshape the buttocks depends on whether the concern is skin laxity, volume, fat distribution or muscle tone. Exercise, skin-removal surgery, fat transfer, implants and selected non-surgical devices have different effects and risks; they are not interchangeable.

Assessment and alternatives

A clinician should review health, medicines, smoking, weight stability, skin, available donor fat, previous surgery and goals. No treatment is also an option. Energy or muscle-stimulation devices may create limited changes but do not reproduce surgical skin removal or volume transfer.

Surgical options and risks

A surgical buttock lift removes selected loose skin. Fat transfer moves processed fat from another area, while implants add volume with a device. Risks can include bleeding, infection, fluid collection, wound problems, asymmetry, contour irregularity, fat loss, implant movement, nerve injury, blood clots, fat embolism, anaesthetic complications and revision.

Travel and recovery

Pressure restrictions, garments, mobility, flying and return to work depend on the operation. The NHS cosmetic-surgery-abroad guide notes that surgery and air travel both affect clot risk. Accommodation at Mandarin Grove recovery retreat is separate from clinical suitability and must be confirmed in the individual plan.
