What Is IntraLase? Suitability, Procedure and Risks

IntraLase is a brand-associated femtosecond-laser method used to create a corneal flap for selected LASIK procedures. A technology name does not by itself establish suitability, precision advantage, same-day vision or a lower complication rate for an individual.

Eye assessment before LASIK

An ophthalmic assessment should consider prescription stability, corneal shape and thickness, tear film, pupil size, eye health, medicines, pregnancy considerations and previous treatment. Glasses or contact lenses remain alternatives. Another laser or lens procedure may be discussed, but these are not interchangeable.

Device and surgeon questions

Ask for the exact platform, planned flap and ablation method, surgeon’s procedure-specific experience, diagnostic tests, eye-tracking and eye-protection arrangements. Confirm who handles urgent symptoms and residual prescription after returning home.

Risks and expectations

Possible effects include dry or sore eyes, glare, halos, starbursts, blurred vision, flap problems, inflammation, infection, under- or over-correction, regression and need for further treatment.
