LASIK Eye Surgery in Turkey
LASIK eye surgery in Turkey reshapes the cornea to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses for suitable prescriptions. Revitalize coordinates the journey to an independent eye specialist in Izmir; the surgeon confirms whether treatment is appropriate after examining your eyes.
Explore LASIK costs and UK comparison, suitability, procedure differences and recovery and follow-up before requesting a personal assessment.
Your return date depends on the surgeon’s review and the follow-up arrangements for your eyes. Agree the examination, treatment and review schedule before booking flights; a short clinic visit does not mean recovery is complete.

THE PROCEDURE
What is LASIK eye surgery?
LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. The surgeon creates a thin hinged flap in the cornea, uses an excimer laser to reshape the tissue beneath it, and repositions the flap. The aim is to improve focus for suitable cases of short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism; it does not treat every cause of blurred vision.
With femtosecond LASIK, the flap is made using a laser. IntraLase refers to a femtosecond flap-creation technology, rather than a separate correction for every eye condition. Confirm the proposed method with your surgeon. Moorfields explains the main laser techniques.
Who may be suitable for LASIK?
A stable prescription and adulthood are only starting points. The assessment must consider corneal shape and thickness, dry-eye symptoms, prescription range and general eye health. Tell the surgeon about previous eye treatment, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and conditions that could affect healing or prescription stability.
Thin or irregular corneas and significant dry eye can make LASIK inappropriate. Being unsuitable for LASIK does not automatically make PRK or lens surgery suitable. Glasses or contact lenses may remain the better option. See the FDA’s LASIK suitability guidance for questions to discuss.
LASIK vs PRK, LASEK and SMILE
- LASIK: correction beneath a corneal flap; early visual recovery is often quicker than with surface treatment.
- PRK or LASEK: surface treatments without a LASIK flap. The surface must heal, so early recovery is generally slower. A separate assessment is still necessary.
- SMILE: a small piece of corneal tissue is removed through a small incision, without making a LASIK flap. Read about SMILE laser surgery.
Lens replacement changes the natural lens inside the eye; it is a different operation with different indications and risks. Our main laser-eye comparison brings the corneal treatment options together.

LASIK eye surgery cost in Turkey and the UK
A useful comparison starts with the same treatment and the same number of eyes. Ask for a written, itemised LASIK quotation after suitability assessment. The proposed technique, investigations, medicines, follow-up and any travel arrangements all affect what you are comparing.
Published UK example, checked 24 October 2026: Leeds Teaching Hospitals’ St James’s Laser Vision service lists LASIK at £2,090 per eye or £4,180 for both eyes. Its page states that the surgery price covers follow-ups and necessary medicines prescribed by its staff, with an initial consultation free of charge. This is one UK provider’s published price, not a UK average or a Revitalize price; confirm current terms directly.
For treatment arranged through Revitalize in Turkey, request a personal quotation. Confirm the following in writing before comparing it with a UK offer:
- Procedure: one or both eyes, the named technique, surgeon and clinic charges.
- Assessment: which scans and examinations are included, and what happens financially if surgery is unsuitable.
- Aftercare: prescribed drops, scheduled reviews, the period covered and any additional treatment or enhancement policy.
- Travel: accommodation, transfers and flights, identifying each included and excluded item.
- UK return: who provides follow-up, who pays for it, and the arrangements for unexpected problems or a longer stay.
Compare the total planned journey and possible additional costs, not just a headline per-eye fee. The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ patient resources can help you prepare questions about costs, alternatives and aftercare.
LASIK recovery and returning to the UK
Vision may improve early, but blur, irritation and fluctuations can continue. The FDA’s LASIK guidance describes an initial review within 24–48 hours and notes that vision can take three to six months to stabilise. These are general guideposts, not a personal clearance date.
Use prescribed drops and eye protection as directed, avoid rubbing your eyes, and follow the surgeon’s restrictions on work, driving, makeup, swimming and sport. Stop wearing contact lenses for the period specified before your assessment; the required interval varies by lens type.
Before travelling, agree the local review schedule and return-flight timing. Before leaving Turkey, obtain your treatment record, drop instructions, emergency contact details and a written follow-up plan. Establish who will examine your eyes after you return to the UK and what costs apply. Remote support does not replace an eye examination when one is needed.
LASIK side effects and risks
Possible problems include persistent dry eyes, glare or halos, reduced night-vision quality, under- or over-correction and flap-related complications. Glasses or further treatment may still be needed; further correction is not always possible. Serious vision problems can occur. Discuss your individual risks and expectations with the surgeon; the FDA’s risk guidance explains these limits.
Seek urgent eye care for severe pain, sudden deterioration in vision, new flashes or floaters, or a curtain-like shadow. Do not wait for a routine review or a reply to a travel enquiry. In the UK, follow the NHS guidance on urgent eye symptoms.

ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Am I a suitable candidate for LASIK?
A stable prescription and adulthood alone do not establish suitability. The surgeon must assess corneal shape and thickness, dry eyes, prescription range, medical history and overall eye health. PRK or lens surgery is not an automatic alternative if LASIK is unsuitable.
Does LASIK hurt?
Anaesthetic eye drops are used, but pressure during treatment and discomfort afterwards are possible. Ask what to expect and how to obtain help if symptoms are severe or worsening.
How long does the procedure take?
The laser treatment is only part of the appointment. Assessment, preparation and checks take additional time; ask the treating clinic for its schedule rather than planning travel around the laser’s operating time.
How quickly will I see clearly?
Early improvement is possible, but it is not a guarantee of clear vision the following morning. Fluctuations may continue for months; attend the reviews arranged for you.
When can I fly home?
Agree this with the treating surgeon after the necessary checks. There is no single return-flight date suitable for everyone. Confirm the required stay and review schedule before booking flights.
Are both eyes treated on the same day?
They may be treated in one session if both are suitable. The surgeon must assess each eye and confirm the proposed plan, including any reason to treat them separately.
Are the results permanent?
LASIK changes the cornea, but it does not stop the eyes changing with age. Reading glasses or other correction may still be needed later; lifelong freedom from glasses is not guaranteed.
How is LASIK different from PRK and LASEK?
LASIK treats beneath a corneal flap. PRK and LASEK are surface treatments, with a different early healing process. The choice depends on the eye assessment, not on a preference for the shortest recovery alone.
When can I return to work and normal activities?
Return when your vision, symptoms and surgeon’s advice allow. Driving, swimming, eye makeup and contact sports have different requirements; follow your own written instructions.
Do I need to stop wearing contact lenses beforehand?
Usually yes, because lenses can affect corneal measurements. Ask the clinic how long to leave out your particular type of lens before assessment and surgery, and whether measurements need repeating.
How much does LASIK cost in Turkey compared with the UK?
Request a personalised Turkey quotation and compare the same procedure, number of eyes and follow-up scope. The cost section above gives a dated UK provider example; it is not a Revitalize price or a national average. Include travel and any UK follow-up costs.
What if I have a problem after returning to the UK?
Seek appropriate local eye care promptly for urgent symptoms. Use the treating clinic’s agreed contact route as well, and bring your surgical records. Before treatment, clarify who provides routine reviews, additional care and payment responsibility.
