Ear Correction Surgery: Restore Confidence in Your Look
Ear correction surgery changes the position, shape or proportion of the outer ear. It should be planned around individual anatomy and goals; it cannot guarantee symmetry, minimal scarring or greater confidence.
What assessment should cover
- Ear shape, cartilage, skin and asymmetry.
- Health, medicines, smoking and previous surgery.
- The person’s own goals and realistic limitations.
- Proposed incisions, cartilage work and fixation.
- Named contracted surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia and aftercare.
In children, the child’s views, ear development and ability to participate in recovery are especially important. Adults and children should have time to consider no treatment and other appropriate options.
Risks and recovery
Possible risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, altered sensation, asymmetry, over- or under-correction, skin or cartilage problems, recurrence and further surgery. Recovery differs between patients. Follow the surgical team’s written instructions for dressings, sleep, washing, activity and review.
