COVID-19 variants: how to check current official guidance

SARS-CoV-2 changes over time, and the names, prevalence and assessment of variants can change faster than a static article can be updated. Use current public-health sources rather than relying on an old variant label or an attributed media comment.

Check the current variant position

The World Health Organization COVID-19 variants dashboard lists variants currently being monitored and explains the relevant classifications. Check the date shown on the source and use national guidance for advice that applies where you live.

Symptoms and testing

Symptoms can overlap with other respiratory infections and cannot reliably identify a variant. Follow current local guidance on testing, staying away from vulnerable people and seeking clinical advice. A healthcare professional can advise if symptoms are severe, persistent or concerning in the context of your medical history.

When to seek urgent help

Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty, blue or grey lips or skin, sudden confusion, collapse, severe chest pain or another rapidly worsening symptom. Use the emergency service appropriate to your location. This list is not exhaustive.

Vaccination and prevention

Vaccine recommendations and formulations can change as evidence and circulating variants evolve. Check current national public-health guidance, particularly if you are older, pregnant, immunocompromised or have a condition associated with higher risk. General measures such as ventilation, hand hygiene and avoiding close contact while acutely unwell may reduce transmission risk.

Planning treatment or travel

If you are arranging treatment through Revitalize in Turkey, report a recent positive test, respiratory symptoms or significant exposure before travelling or attending a facility. The treating clinical team should decide whether assessment or treatment needs to be delayed. Airline, border, hospital and insurance requirements may also change.

Scope of this page

This page does not diagnose COVID-19, identify a variant or replace personal medical advice. Revitalize coordinates treatment enquiries with its contracted clinical partners; it does not issue public-health policy or guarantee that travel or treatment can proceed.
