For patients in South Africa
Hydrafacial in Turkey from South Africa: a gentle skin treatment, best as an add-on
Hydrafacial is a non-invasive facial that cleanses, exfoliates, clears pores and hydrates the skin in one session, using a device with a vacuum-style tip that removes debris while delivering serums. It is a maintenance treatment rather than a corrective one. This page explains what happens, who it suits, and why, for a patient in South Africa, it is usually best added to another treatment in İzmir.
In short: A hydrafacial takes 30 to 45 minutes, is generally comfortable and needs no downtime. It helps with dull, dry or congested skin and uneven texture, but the effect is temporary and it will not treat deep lines, scarring or established pigmentation. Flying from South Africa only for a hydrafacial is hard to justify.

What happens during a hydrafacial
The treatment runs through four steps with different attachments on the same device:
- Cleanse and exfoliate — the outer layer of dead skin cells is lifted away
- Mild acid peel — a gentle solution loosens debris in the pores
- Extraction — gentle suction draws out impurities and excess oil
- Hydrate and infuse — serums with hydrating and antioxidant ingredients are applied to the skin
The serums can be adjusted to your skin type. Full details are on the hydrafacial treatment page.
Who it suits
A hydrafacial can suit dry or dehydrated skin, oily skin with clogged or enlarged pores, a dull complexion and uneven texture or tone. It is gentle enough for most skin types. Before treatment, tell the practitioner about any sensitivity or skin condition, and avoid strong peels, harsh exfoliants and heavy sun exposure in the days before.
What it will not do
It does not soften deep lines, remove acne scars or clear established pigmentation. For those, laser resurfacing or injectables may fit better; see the laser skin resurfacing guide and the facial treatments guide. The glow after a hydrafacial fades, so it is best held with repeat sessions, which is difficult to arrange from South Africa. Results vary from person to person, and a hydrafacial is not a substitute for medical care.
Aftercare and risks
Most people return to normal activities straight away. Mild, temporary redness, sensitivity or slight irritation can occur, especially in sensitive skin. Afterwards, use sunscreen, keep the skin hydrated and avoid harsh products for a short time. In strong South African sun, sunscreen matters even more.
Planning the trip from South Africa
- As an add-on: a hydrafacial fits easily into a stay for another treatment, for example before you fly home, because there is no downtime; a ten-hour flight for this alone is hard to justify
- Flights: direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Istanbul take around ten hours, then a short domestic flight to İzmir
- Visa: South Africans need an e-Visa; see the e-Visa guide
- Time difference: İzmir is one hour ahead of South Africa
- Cover: medical schemes generally do not cover elective treatment abroad, and travel insurance usually excludes planned treatment; check both
Under our treatment guarantee, medical complications arising from treatment are covered for one year; flights and accommodation remain your own cost. Clinic details are on clinic facts, and our complaints process is published. For other skin options, see the skin treatments guide for South African patients and the anti-ageing treatments guide.
What we will not do
We will not present a hydrafacial as a fix for lines, scarring or pigmentation, we will not suggest a trip from South Africa for this treatment alone, and we will not treat before your skin has been checked.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a hydrafacial take?
A typical session takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the treatment plan.
Is there downtime after a hydrafacial?
Usually none. Most people go back to normal activities straight away, though mild redness can occur for a short time.
Does a hydrafacial hurt?
It is generally comfortable and gentle on the skin. Tell the practitioner if your skin is sensitive.
Is it worth flying from South Africa for a hydrafacial?
Not on its own. It is a short maintenance treatment with a temporary effect. It makes sense as an add-on when you are already in Turkey for another treatment.
Can a hydrafacial be combined with other treatments?
Yes, it can be part of a wider skin plan, for example alongside a skin booster. The doctor decides what fits your skin and the order of treatments.
