For patients in South Africa
Breast combination package in Turkey from South Africa: a plain guide
The breast combination package brings together a breast augmentation and a breast lift in one planned operation. It is meant for breasts that have both lost volume and dropped, often after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight change. This page explains what the package involves, who it suits, and what South African patients need to plan for.
In short: The package combines implants with a breast lift, so volume and position are corrected in one operation under general anaesthesia. Most patients spend one to two nights in hospital and stay in Turkey from several days to a week. South Africans travel with an e-Visa via Istanbul to İzmir. The surgeon decides whether you need both procedures, and when you can fly.

Guides for South African patients

What the package combines
Breast augmentation
Implants add volume and improve shape. Implant type, size and profile are chosen with the surgeon to suit your frame and goals.
Breast lift
A breast lift (mastopexy) removes excess skin and repositions the breast tissue and nipple higher on the chest, giving a firmer contour.
When lost volume and sagging occur together, doing both in one operation addresses both concerns with one anaesthetic and one recovery. More detail is on the breast combination package page.
Who it suits
- People who have lost volume and whose breasts sit lower than they would like
- People whose breasts have changed after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight change or with age
- People in good general health at a stable weight
- Non-smokers, or people able to stop well before surgery
At consultation the surgeon reviews your history, skin quality, future pregnancy plans and lifestyle before confirming the plan.
Surgery and the first days
You have a medical assessment and routine blood tests before surgery. The combined operation is done under general anaesthesia in hospital, and most patients stay one to two nights. You are given a support garment and clear instructions on wound care, movement and medication. Swelling and bruising are expected and settle over several weeks; light activity is encouraged, but strenuous upper-body movement is restricted for as long as the surgeon advises.
Planning the trip from South Africa
- Flights: direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Istanbul take around ten hours, followed by a short domestic flight to İzmir
- Visa: South Africans apply for an e-Visa online before travelling; see the e-Visa guide
- Recovery: after one to two nights in hospital, patients recover at Mandarin Grove, our recovery retreat near İzmir, between check-ups
- Fitness to fly: the surgeon decides when you can fly, so book a return ticket you can change
- On the flight: wear your support bra, choose an aisle seat, walk regularly and drink water; ask for help with luggage
- Time difference: Turkey is only one hour ahead of South Africa, which makes follow-up calls easy
- Cover: medical schemes generally do not cover cosmetic surgery abroad, and travel insurance usually excludes planned surgery
What decides the cost
There is no single package price, because the plan depends on implant choice, how complex the lift is and what care you need. Your written quotation sets out what is included, and pricing is transparent: ask about anything that is not listed before you travel.
Follow-up at home
Follow-up continues by photograph, message and video call with the same team after you return. Take home your implant card and a record of the brand, size and placement for your GP. Complications and clinically necessary revisions within a year are covered by our treatment guarantee; it does not cover a preference for a different look where the result is within what was discussed with you, and flights and accommodation for any revision remain your own cost. Facts about the clinic and surgeons are on the clinic facts page, and if something goes wrong you can use our complaints process.
What we will not do
We will not confirm a plan before a surgeon has reviewed you, we will not promise a result, and we will not operate if your health makes it unsafe. A long journey is not a reason to add more to one operation than the surgeon judges safe.
Frequently asked questions
What does the breast combination package include?
It combines a breast augmentation with implants and a breast lift in one planned operation, to restore volume and raise the breasts at the same time.
Do I always need implants with a lift?
No. Implants are used when you want more volume. If your breasts have enough volume and only sit low, a lift on its own may be enough, and the surgeon will say so.
Is the package suitable after pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Often, yes, once the breasts have settled after pregnancy and breastfeeding and you are in good general health. If you plan more children, discuss it first, because a later pregnancy can change the result.
How long should I stay in Turkey?
Most patients stay from several days to a week, depending on how they heal and on the surgeon’s advice. Because the flight home to South Africa takes around ten hours, book a return ticket you can change.
Will my medical aid cover a breast lift with implants?
South African medical schemes generally do not cover cosmetic breast surgery, and standard travel insurance usually excludes planned surgery abroad. Ask both specifically before you book.
