Eye-Bag Removal Surgery: Options, Risks and Recovery
Eye-bag removal surgery, often lower blepharoplasty, may remove or reposition fat and sometimes adjust skin or muscle. Under-eye fullness can also relate to fluid, allergy, skin quality or facial anatomy, so assessment should establish the cause before treatment.
Approaches
A transconjunctival approach uses an incision inside the lower eyelid and may suit selected patients without significant excess skin. A skin incision below the lashes can address selected skin or muscle concerns. Fat may be reduced or repositioned. No technique guarantees an invisible scar, permanent result or younger appearance.
Suitability and alternatives
Assessment should cover eye health, dry eye, eyelid tone, medicines, smoking, thyroid or bleeding conditions and previous procedures. Alternatives may include no treatment, skin care or selected non-surgical procedures, each with separate limits and risks.
Risks
Risks include bleeding, infection, dry or watery eyes, asymmetry, contour irregularity, visible scarring, eyelid retraction, difficulty closing the eye and revision. Rare bleeding behind the eye can threaten sight and requires urgent treatment. Recovery and travel clearance vary.
