THE PROCEDURE

What is an eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, medically known as blepharoplasty, rejuvenates the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both by removing excess skin and repositioning or removing fat. The procedure restores a brighter, more youthful appearance while maintaining natural facial expressions.

Unlike non-surgical treatments, blepharoplasty permanently removes excess skin and addresses under-eye bags and puffiness that cannot be corrected with injectables or skin tightening alone. It is particularly effective for patients with drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or a tired-looking appearance.

At Revitalize in Turkey, every eyelid surgery procedure is tailored to your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. Our experienced surgeons use advanced techniques to achieve natural-looking results, combining exceptional surgical expertise with comprehensive aftercare and outstanding value.

SUITABILITY

Are you a candidate for eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery may be right for you if you:

  • Have drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or excess eyelid skin

  • Feel your eyes make you look tired, aged, or less refreshed than you feel

  • Experience vision being affected by excess upper eyelid skin

  • Are in good general health, a non-smoker (or able to stop before surgery), and have realistic expectations about the results

Candidacy is always confirmed following a medical assessment of your health, eyelid anatomy, photographs, and goals. If blepharoplasty is not the most suitable option, we’ll recommend the treatment that best meets your individual needs.

RECOVERY

Eyelid surgery recovery timeline

Days 1–3: Rest with your head elevated to help minimise swelling. Mild discomfort, swelling, bruising, and tightness around the eyes are expected during this period. Cold compresses are often recommended to help reduce swelling.

Days 4–7: Swelling and bruising begin to improve, and any sutures are usually removed during this period. Most patients feel comfortable enough to fly home after 5–7 days, subject to their surgeon’s approval.

Weeks 2–6: The majority of visible swelling resolves, allowing the eyes to appear brighter and more refreshed. Most patients return to work and normal daily activities within 1–2 weeks, although strenuous exercise should be avoided until cleared by your surgeon.

Months 3–6: Incision lines continue to soften and fade as the eyelids settle into their final appearance. The result is a natural-looking, more youthful eye contour with long-lasting improvement.

SAFETY FIRST

Risks & safety

Eyelid surgery is a well-established procedure, but like any operation, it carries potential risks, which we discuss openly during your consultation. These can include swelling, bruising, temporary dry eyes, blurred vision, asymmetry, delayed wound healing, and—more rarely—bleeding, infection, or changes in eyelid position.

We minimise these risks through a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, meticulous surgical techniques, and structured aftercare with 24/7 access to our medical team throughout your stay. Your surgeon will explain your individual risk profile in detail and provide personalised guidance to support a smooth and safe recovery.

ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both to create a more refreshed, youthful appearance.

Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates are healthy adults with drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, excess eyelid skin, or a tired-looking appearance. Your suitability will be confirmed during a comprehensive consultation.

Will eyelid surgery improve my vision?

It can. If excess upper eyelid skin is obstructing your field of vision, upper blepharoplasty may improve both your appearance and your eyesight.

Will I have visible scars?

Incisions are carefully placed within the natural eyelid creases or just below the lower lash line, making scars very discreet once fully healed.

Is eyelid surgery painful?

Most patients experience mild discomfort, tightness, and swelling rather than significant pain. These symptoms are temporary and are usually well managed with prescribed medication.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey?

Most patients stay in Turkey for 5–7 days, allowing time for surgery, follow-up appointments, and surgeon approval before flying home.

When can I return to work?

Many patients return to desk-based work and light social activities within 1–2 weeks, once most swelling and bruising have settled.

Can eyelid surgery be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Blepharoplasty is commonly combined with facelift, brow lift, neck lift, or facial fat transfer to achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

How long do the results last?

Results are long-lasting. While the natural ageing process continues, most patients enjoy a more youthful eye appearance for many years following surgery.

Can upper and lower eyelid surgery be performed together?

Yes. Many patients choose to have both upper and lower blepharoplasty during the same operation to achieve balanced, comprehensive rejuvenation around the eyes.
