Neck and Lower Facelift: Assessment, Options and Risks
A neck lift and lower facelift may address loose skin, jowls, neck bands and selected contours. The procedures can be performed separately or together, but cannot guarantee a particular age, symmetry or “rejuvenated” appearance.
Assessment and alternatives
The surgeon should assess facial and neck anatomy, skin quality, fat distribution, muscle bands, asymmetry, scars, health, medicines, smoking and expectations. Alternatives may include no treatment, a limited procedure, liposuction for suitable fat, or a non-surgical option with different limitations.
Procedure planning
The plan should identify incision locations, skin and muscle treatment, whether liposuction or fat transfer is proposed, anaesthesia and hospital arrangements. Treating more areas can change operative time, risk and recovery.
Risks
Risks include bleeding, infection, fluid collection, delayed healing, skin loss, altered sensation, facial-nerve injury, asymmetry, hairline or ear change, prominent scars, blood clots, anaesthetic complications, dissatisfaction and revision.
