Double Chin Fat Removal: Options, Limits and Risks
Double-chin fat removal is not one procedure. Fullness beneath the chin may relate to subcutaneous fat, loose skin, muscle position, chin or jaw projection, glands, posture or overall weight, and each factor can require a different plan.
Assessment and alternatives
A clinician should examine the chin, neck, skin elasticity, facial proportions and health history. Options may include no treatment, general weight management, a licensed injection for selected submental fat, cryolipolysis, liposuction, skin or neck surgery, or treatment of a separate structural concern. Facial exercise cannot selectively remove local fat.
Limits and risks
Non-surgical treatments may require more than one session and can cause pain, swelling, numbness, nerve injury, skin injury or contour irregularity. Cryolipolysis also carries a rare risk of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. Liposuction and surgery can cause bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, altered sensation, contour problems, anaesthetic complications and revision.
Choosing care
Ask who will diagnose and perform treatment, their registration and experience, the exact medicine, device or operation, the facility, emergency arrangements, aftercare and total written quotation. Do not rely on an overseas competitor clinic, product brand, anonymous review or promised jawline.
The NHS practitioner-selection guide recommends checking qualifications, risks and aftercare directly with the practitioner.
