Canthoplasty in Turkey: Assessment, Risks and Aftercare
Canthoplasty changes the support or position of the eyelid corner. The term can describe different operations and should not be treated as a standard “rejuvenation” package or a fixed-price procedure.
Assessment and indication
An ophthalmic or appropriately qualified surgical assessment should consider eyelid position, eye surface, tear film, previous eye surgery, facial nerve function, asymmetry, health and goals. The reason may be functional, reconstructive or cosmetic. Alternatives can include no treatment or another eyelid-support procedure.
Procedure questions
Ask which canthal structure will be altered, whether canthopexy or another operation is meant, how eye closure and lower-lid support will be protected, and who manages dry-eye or exposure problems. Photographs and simulations do not predict a result.
Risks and recovery
Risks include bleeding, infection, dry eye, irritation, poor closure, lid retraction or malposition, asymmetry, scarring, altered sensation, recurrence, double vision and, rarely, vision-threatening complications. Increasing pain, reduced vision or marked swelling requires urgent assessment.
