Appendectomy recovery timeline
Days 1–3: You will be encouraged to walk soon after surgery to promote circulation and recovery. Mild abdominal discomfort, bloating, and fatigue are normal during this period and are managed with prescribed pain relief. Your wounds will be monitored by our medical team.
Days 4–7: Most patients feel significantly better and are able to carry out light daily activities. You should continue avoiding strenuous activity and heavy lifting. Most patients are fit to fly home after 3–5 days, subject to their surgeon’s approval.
Weeks 2–4: Energy levels continue to improve, and most patients can return to work and normal daily routines, depending on the nature of their job. Heavy lifting and intense exercise should still be avoided until advised by your surgeon.
Weeks 4–6: The internal tissues continue to heal, and most patients can gradually resume all normal activities, including exercise, once cleared by their surgeon. By this stage, recovery is usually complete with no long-term restrictions.
