Open vs closed rhinoplasty
Open and closed describe how the surgeon reaches the structures of the nose. The proposed approach depends on the changes being planned.
Closed rhinoplasty: the surgeon works through incisions within the nostrils. Ask whether this approach gives the access needed for your proposed changes.
Open rhinoplasty: an additional incision across the columella, between the nostrils, allows the skin to be lifted for access to the underlying structures. Discuss the external scar and the reasons for choosing this approach.
Rhinoplasty vs septorhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose. Septorhinoplasty combines reshaping with surgery on the septum, the partition between the nasal passages. If you have breathing difficulties, describe them during assessment so the surgeon can distinguish your functional and appearance goals.
Ask which structures would be treated, whether cartilage grafting is proposed, and how the plan addresses your priorities. The incision approach and the purpose of the surgery are separate parts of that discussion.

Rhinoplasty recovery timeline

First week: early recovery and review
Congestion, swelling and bruising are expected early effects. An external splint and non-dissolving stitches may be removed at a review around one week after surgery, according to the surgical plan.
First two weeks: planning time off work
NHS guidance uses up to two weeks away from work as a general reference for rhinoplasty. Your work demands, the extent of surgery and recovery may require longer. Ask specifically about this if septal surgery is included.
Weeks four to six: return to strenuous activity
This is a commonly described window for resuming more demanding exercise after review. Follow your surgeon’s clearance, particularly for activities that could injure your nose.
Following months: swelling and nasal shape
The appearance continues to change as swelling settles. Tip changes can develop over several months and sometimes up to a year; early photographs do not show the settled result.
Planning your return flight

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to improve its appearance, function, or both. It can address concerns such as a dorsal hump, a wide or crooked nose, a drooping or bulbous tip, or breathing difficulties caused by structural abnormalities.
Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
You may be a suitable candidate if you are unhappy with the size, shape, or proportion of your nose, or if you experience breathing problems related to the structure of your nose. You should also be in good general health, have realistic expectations, and have completed facial growth.
How long do rhinoplasty changes last?
Structural changes may be long-lasting, but ageing, healing, injury and tissue change continue. Appearance, symmetry and function are not guaranteed permanently.
Will rhinoplasty improve my breathing?

Will I have visible scars?

An open approach leaves an external columellar scar; visibility and scar quality vary and cannot be guaranteed.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
Pain, pressure and congestion vary and medicines may not remove them completely. Ask about the individual pain plan and symptoms requiring urgent review.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey?
The required stay and permission to fly depend on the individual operation, recovery, splint or suture plan and clinical review. Confirm dates before booking travel.
When can I return to work?
