Discover the Deep Plane Facelift Procedure

A deep plane facelift is a surgical approach designed to reposition selected deeper facial tissues rather than relying only on skin tension. It may address changes in the lower face, jawline and neck, but suitability depends on anatomy, health, goals and the operating surgeon’s assessment.

This Revitalize guide explains the procedure, questions to ask and important risks. It is general information and does not replace an individual consultation.

How does a deep plane facelift differ?

Facelift terminology is not always used consistently. In a deep plane approach, the surgeon works beneath parts of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) and releases selected retaining ligaments so deeper tissue can be repositioned. Other facelift approaches may also reposition the SMAS using different dissection and fixation methods.

No single technique is best for everyone. Facial structure, skin quality, previous surgery, smoking, medical conditions, the areas being treated and the surgeon’s judgement all influence the safest plan.

What can the procedure address?

  • Selected laxity in the cheeks and lower face.
  • Changes around the jawline and jowls.
  • Neck laxity when an appropriate neck procedure is included.
  • Some deep folds caused partly by tissue descent.

A facelift does not stop ageing, change every facial feature or guarantee scar-free or perfectly symmetrical results. Volume loss, skin texture and eyelid or brow concerns may require separate assessment.

Consultation and provider verification

The consultation should cover your medical history, medicines, allergies, smoking, previous facial treatments and the changes you hope to achieve. Ask Revitalize to confirm in writing the proposed surgeon and hospital. The surgeon should have relevant plastic surgery training and specific experience with the technique being proposed.

  • Ask why this approach is recommended over alternatives.
  • Discuss incision placement, likely scars and changes in sensation.
  • Confirm the anaesthesia plan and licensed treatment facility.
  • Review unedited examples in context, understanding that photographs cannot predict your outcome.
  • Confirm how complications and follow-up after returning to the UK will be managed.

Risks of deep plane facelift surgery

Potential complications include bleeding or haematoma, infection, delayed wound healing, skin or hair loss near incisions, visible or widened scars, asymmetry, contour irregularity, prolonged swelling, altered sensation, facial nerve injury, blood clots, anaesthetic complications and revision surgery. Smoking and some health conditions can increase risk.

Experience and careful planning matter, but they do not make complications impossible. No provider can ethically guarantee a particular appearance, a painless recovery or a result lasting a fixed number of years.

Preparing for surgery

Follow only the medication, fasting, smoking and skin-care instructions given for your case. Do not stop prescribed medicine, aspirin or supplements without guidance from the appropriate clinician. Arrange support, suitable accommodation and enough flexibility for the surgeon’s recommended stay in Turkey.

Recovery and aftercare

Bruising, swelling, tightness and temporary numbness can occur. Some people feel ready for social activity sooner than others, while deeper healing continues for longer. The timing of travel, work, driving and exercise must be personalised; fixed online timelines should not replace the surgeon’s advice.

Follow instructions on wound care, sleeping position, activity and medication, and attend scheduled reviews. Contact the clinical team promptly for increasing pain, redness, discharge, fever, facial weakness or unexpected swelling. Heavy bleeding, breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting or sudden leg swelling require urgent medical assessment; in a UK emergency, use NHS emergency services.

How long do results last?

Facelift surgery may create a lasting change, but ageing, sun exposure, health, smoking and weight change continue to affect the face. It is not responsible to promise a precise duration. The surgeon can explain what is realistic for your anatomy and plan.
