Assessment and informed consent

The surgeon should review medical history, medicines, allergies, smoking, previous breast surgery, screening, pregnancy plans and expectations. Examination should consider breast tissue, skin, nipple position, asymmetry and chest dimensions.

Discuss scar patterns, implant records, alternatives, possible effects on sensation and breastfeeding, future monitoring and the possibility of implant removal or revision. Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and there is no universal replacement date.
