What does PRK treat?

Am I a suitable candidate?
Most adults over 18 with a stable prescription for at least 12 months. PRK is often the recommended option for patients with thinner or irregular corneas, and for those in contact sports, military service, or physically demanding work. Suitability is confirmed through corneal mapping at your pre-operative assessment.
How does the procedure work?
Anaesthetic drops numb the eye. The surgeon removes the thin outer layer of the cornea (the epithelium), then the excimer laser reshapes the surface beneath. A soft bandage contact lens is placed over the eye to protect it while the epithelium regrows.
Does it hurt?
The procedure itself is painless — the eye is completely numbed. Discomfort comes afterwards, during healing: expect soreness, light sensitivity, and watering for the first three to five days. Prescribed drops and pain relief manage this, and most patients find the worst is over by day four.
How long does it take?
Around 10–15 minutes for both eyes. You'll be at the clinic for roughly two hours in total.
Are both eyes treated on the same day?
Usually yes. Some patients prefer to treat one eye at a time given the recovery period, which your surgeon can discuss with you.
How long is the recovery?
