Hemorrhoid Surgery in Turkey

Hemorrhoid surgery is one of the most effective procedures for treating enlarged or painful hemorrhoids, relieving discomfort, reducing bleeding, and restoring comfort during everyday activities.

Most patients are ready to fly home after 3–5 days, with a return to light daily activities within a few days to 1 week and full recovery typically taking 2–4 weeks, depending on the type of hemorrhoid surgery performed.

THE PROCEDURE

What is appendectomy?

Hemorrhoid surgery is a procedure used to treat enlarged or swollen hemorrhoids that cause persistent pain, bleeding, itching, or discomfort. It is typically recommended when symptoms cannot be effectively managed with lifestyle changes or non-surgical treatments.

Depending on the severity of your condition, the procedure may involve removing the hemorrhoids (hemorrhoidectomy) or reducing their blood supply using advanced surgical techniques. The aim is to relieve symptoms, prevent recurrence, and restore comfort during bowel movements and everyday activities.

At Revitalize in Turkey, every hemorrhoid procedure is performed by experienced general surgeons using modern techniques and supported by comprehensive aftercare. We provide international patients with safe, effective treatment and a smooth recovery experience from arrival through to their return home.

RECOVERY

Hemorrhoid surgery recovery timeline

Days 1–3: Mild pain, swelling, and discomfort around the surgical area are normal and are managed with prescribed pain relief. You will be encouraged to walk gently, maintain good hygiene, and avoid straining during bowel movements. Your recovery will be monitored by our medical team.

Days 4–7: Most patients notice a gradual improvement in discomfort and are able to carry out light daily activities. You should continue avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. Most patients are fit to fly home after 3–5 days, subject to their surgeon’s approval.

Weeks 2–4: Pain and swelling continue to settle, and most patients can return to work and normal daily routines, depending on the type of surgery performed and the nature of their job. A high-fibre diet and adequate fluid intake are recommended to support healing.

Weeks 4–6: The surgical area continues to heal, and most patients can gradually resume all normal activities, including exercise, once approved by their surgeon. By this stage, recovery is usually complete and symptoms have significantly improved.

SAFETY FIRST

Risks & safety

Hemorrhoid surgery is a well-established procedure, but like any operation, it carries potential risks, which we discuss openly during your consultation. These can include pain, swelling, bleeding, temporary difficulty passing stools, infection, and — more rarely — narrowing of the anal canal, recurrence of hemorrhoids, or temporary changes in bowel control.

We minimise these risks through a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, meticulous surgical techniques, and structured aftercare with 24/7 access to our medical team throughout your stay. Your surgeon will explain your individual risk profile in detail and provide personalised guidance to support a safe recovery.

ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

What is hemorrhoid surgery?

Hemorrhoid surgery is a procedure used to remove or treat enlarged hemorrhoids that cause persistent pain, bleeding, itching, or discomfort when other treatments have not been effective.

When is hemorrhoid surgery recommended?

Surgery is usually recommended for large, prolapsed, or recurring hemorrhoids, or when symptoms such as bleeding and pain continue despite lifestyle changes, medication, or minimally invasive treatments.

Is hemorrhoid surgery painful?

Some discomfort is expected during the first few days after surgery, but this is usually well controlled with pain medication and gradually improves as healing progresses.

How long will I stay in Turkey?

Most patients stay in Turkey for 3–5 days to allow time for surgery, recovery, and a post-operative review before travelling home.

When can I return to work?

Many patients can return to desk-based work within 1–2 weeks. Recovery may take longer if your job involves heavy physical activity.

When can I exercise after surgery?

Light walking is encouraged soon after surgery, but strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that increase abdominal pressure should be avoided for several weeks or until your surgeon advises otherwise.

What should I eat after hemorrhoid surgery?

A high-fibre diet, plenty of fluids, and, if recommended, stool softeners help prevent constipation and reduce strain during bowel movements while the surgical area heals.

Can hemorrhoids come back after surgery?

Hemorrhoid surgery provides long-term relief for most patients, but new hemorrhoids can develop in the future. Maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and avoiding prolonged straining can help reduce the risk of recurrence.

Will I have visible scars?

No. Hemorrhoid surgery is performed internally or around the anal canal, so there are no visible external scars.

How do I know if I need hemorrhoid surgery?

If you have persistent bleeding, pain, prolapsing hemorrhoids, or symptoms that have not improved with non-surgical treatments, your surgeon will assess your condition and determine whether surgery is the most appropriate option.
