Anal Fissure Surgery in Turkey

Anal fissure surgery is one of the most effective procedures for treating persistent anal fissures by relieving pain, improving healing, preventing recurrence, and restoring comfort during bowel movements.

Most patients are ready to fly home after 3–5 days, with a return to light daily activities within 1–2 weeks and full recovery typically taking 4–6 weeks, depending on the extent of the anal fissure surgery performed.

THE PROCEDURE

What is anal fissure surgery?

Anal fissure surgery is a procedure performed to treat a persistent tear in the lining of the anus that causes pain, bleeding, and discomfort during bowel movements. Surgery is usually recommended when an anal fissure does not heal with medication or non-surgical treatments.

The procedure aims to reduce pressure in the anal muscle, improve blood flow to the affected area, and allow the fissure to heal properly. Depending on the severity of the condition, treatment may involve techniques such as lateral internal sphincterotomy or other surgical approaches recommended by your surgeon.

At Revitalize in Turkey, every anal fissure procedure is performed by experienced general surgeons using modern surgical techniques and supported by comprehensive support. We provide international patients with safe, effective treatment and a smooth recovery experience from arrival through to their return home.

RECOVERY

Anal fissure surgery recovery timeline

Days 1–3: Mild pain, discomfort, and swelling around the surgical area are normal during this period and are managed with prescribed medication. You will be encouraged to walk gently, maintain good hygiene, and avoid straining during bowel movements. Your recovery will be monitored by our medical team.

Days 4–7: Most patients begin to feel more comfortable and can gradually return to light daily activities. You should continue avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise while the area continues to heal. Most patients are fit to fly home after 3–5 days, subject to their surgeon’s approval.

Weeks 2–4: Pain and discomfort continue to improve, and most patients can return to work and normal routines depending on their recovery and the nature of their job. A high-fibre diet and adequate hydration are recommended to support healing.

Weeks 4–6: The surgical area continues to heal, and most patients can gradually resume normal activities once cleared by their surgeon. By this stage, recovery is usually complete, with significant improvement in pain and bowel movement comfort.

SAFETY FIRST

Risks & safety

Anal fissure surgery is a well-established procedure, but like any operation, it carries potential risks, which we discuss openly during your consultation. These can include pain, bleeding, infection, temporary difficulty controlling gas or bowel movements, and — more rarely — changes in bowel control or recurrence of the fissure.

We minimise these risks through a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, meticulous surgical techniques, and structured support with 24/7 access to our medical team throughout your stay. Your surgeon will explain your individual risk profile in detail and provide personalised guidance to support a safe recovery.
