Cleft Lip & Palate Surgery in Turkey

Cleft lip and palate surgery is a reconstructive procedure that repairs a cleft lip, cleft palate, or both to improve facial appearance, speech, feeding, and overall oral function. By restoring the natural structure of the lip and palate, the procedure helps achieve improved function, facial balance, and quality of life.

Most patients are ready to fly home after 5–7 days, with swelling gradually improving over the following weeks. Recovery timelines vary depending on the complexity of the procedure, while the final functional and aesthetic results continue to improve over the following months as healing progresses.

THE PROCEDURE

What is cleft lip surgery?

Cleft lip and palate surgery is a reconstructive procedure that repairs a cleft lip, cleft palate, or both to restore normal anatomy and improve appearance, speech, feeding, and oral function. By carefully reconstructing the affected tissues, the procedure helps enhance facial balance while supporting long-term functional development.

Unlike cosmetic facial procedures, cleft lip and palate surgery is performed to address a congenital condition and improve both function and appearance. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s age, anatomy, and the severity of the cleft, and may involve lip repair, palate repair, or revision surgery depending on individual needs.

At Revitalize in Turkey, every cleft lip and palate procedure is carefully planned around your individual anatomy and treatment goals. Our experienced plastic surgeons use advanced reconstructive techniques to achieve the best possible functional and aesthetic outcomes. Combined with expert surgical care, comprehensive support, and exceptional value, we provide safe, high-quality treatment in one of the world’s leading destinations for plastic and reconstructive surgery.

RECOVERY

Cleft lip surgery recovery timeline

Days 1–3: Rest and follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully. Mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal, and you’ll usually be advised to follow a soft or liquid diet while the surgical site begins to heal.

Days 4–7: Swelling and discomfort gradually improve, and most patients feel comfortable resuming light daily activities. Depending on the extent of the procedure and your surgeon’s assessment, you are typically able to fly home after 5–7 days.

Weeks 2–6: Healing continues as swelling subsides and speech, eating, and overall comfort gradually improve. Most patients return to normal daily routines within 1–2 weeks, although strenuous exercise should be avoided until cleared by your surgeon.

Months 3–12: The tissues continue to mature and soften, while scars gradually fade. Functional improvements and the final aesthetic outcome become more apparent over the following months as healing progresses.

SAFETY FIRST

Risks & safety

Cleft lip and palate surgery is a well-established reconstructive procedure, but like any operation, it carries potential risks, which we discuss openly during your consultation. These can include swelling, bruising, delayed wound healing, scarring, infection, bleeding, fistula formation, speech or feeding difficulties, and—more rarely—the need for additional corrective or revision surgery as part of long-term treatment.

We minimise these risks through a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, meticulous surgical planning, advanced reconstructive techniques, and structured support with 24/7 access to our medical team throughout your stay. Your surgeon will explain your individual treatment plan and risk profile in detail, answer any questions you may have, and provide personalised guidance to support a safe recovery and the best possible functional and aesthetic outcome.
