Knee Replacement in Turkey
Knee replacement surgery is one of the most effective treatments for severe knee pain and joint damage, replacing the worn or damaged knee joint to relieve pain, restore mobility, and help you return to an active, independent lifestyle.
Most patients are ready to fly home after 5–7 days, with a return to light daily activities within 4–6 weeks. Strength, mobility, and overall function continue to improve over the following months, with full recovery typically taking 3–6 months.

THE PROCEDURE
What is knee replacement?
Knee replacement surgery is a procedure to replace a damaged or worn knee joint with durable artificial implants, most commonly performed to relieve chronic pain, restore mobility, and improve quality of life when conservative treatments are no longer effective.
Knee joint damage can result from conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, injury, or severe wear and tear, causing persistent pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, and difficulty with everyday activities. During knee replacement surgery, the damaged surfaces of the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial components designed to restore smooth, stable, pain-free movement. Modern surgical techniques and advanced implants help provide long-lasting results and support a faster recovery.
At Revitalize in Turkey, every knee replacement procedure is performed by experienced orthopaedic surgeons using advanced surgical techniques and supported by comprehensive aftercare. We provide international patients with safe, effective treatment and a seamless recovery experience from arrival through to their return home.

RECOVERY
Knee replacement recovery timeline
Days 1–3: You will be encouraged to stand and begin walking with the support of a physiotherapist soon after surgery to promote circulation, reduce the risk of blood clots, and aid recovery. Some pain, swelling, stiffness, and fatigue are normal during this period and are managed with prescribed medication. Your mobility and surgical wound will be closely monitored by our medical team.
Days 4–7: You will continue increasing your walking distance and practising exercises to improve knee movement and strength with the guidance of your physiotherapist. Most patients are able to walk with a walker or crutches and are fit to fly home after 5–7 days, subject to their surgeon’s approval. You should continue following your rehabilitation programme and avoid high-impact activities.
Weeks 2–6: Knee strength, flexibility, and range of motion continue to improve with regular physiotherapy and prescribed exercises. Many patients are able to walk with a cane or no walking aid by the end of this period and can gradually return to light daily activities, depending on their progress. Driving and returning to work may be possible, depending on your recovery and the nature of your job.
Months 3–6: Most patients experience significant improvements in comfort, mobility, knee function, and quality of life. By this stage, the knee has largely healed, and most normal daily activities can be resumed. Your surgeon will advise when it is safe to return to more demanding activities or low-impact sports.
SAFETY FIRST
Risks & safety
Knee replacement surgery is a well-established procedure, but like any operation, it carries potential risks, which we discuss openly during your consultation. These can include pain, swelling, stiffness, blood clots, infection, delayed wound healing, reduced knee flexibility, implant loosening, and—more rarely—nerve or blood vessel injury, joint instability, or the need for revision surgery.
We minimise these risks through a comprehensive pre-operative assessment, detailed surgical planning, advanced surgical techniques, and structured rehabilitation with ongoing medical support. Your orthopaedic surgeon will explain your individual risk profile in detail and provide personalised guidance to help ensure the safest possible recovery.

EXCELLENT Based on 80 reviews Posted on Google Vanya BriggsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I chose Revitalise in November 2025 for a deep plane facelift, neck lift, temple brow lift, and facial fat grafting. I was quite apprehensive beforehand, but the moment I met the surgeon and the team, all my worries disappeared. They were absolutely incredible , professional, reassuring, and genuinely caring. We stayed at the Mandarin resort, which was lovely overall, and although there are a few small areas that could be improved, the experience surrounding the surgery itself was exceptional. Professor Ahmets hands gave me complete confidence, and the nurses were attentive, kind, and consistently supportive. Our chaperones were brilliant throughout the stay. We had a few different ones, but Abbie supported my husband and me for most of our time there, and she was truly outstanding. Teona was also wonderful at the resort and Lali The rest of the staff appear to be kind too. We really enjoyed our time in Izmir exploring the bazaar, trying different restaurants, seeing the local sights, and having moments of proper relaxation too. The only area I feel could benefit from improvement is the food at the resort. Because it’s quite a distance from other places to eat, having more substantial meal options would make a big difference, especially for Brits recovering from surgery who often need protein-rich, hearty meals. The soups and porridge were delicious, but sometimes you just need a proper meal with meat and carbs to support recovery. Aside from that, everything else was faultless. My husband also had dental work done, and the dentist was extremely attentive. I’ve already booked to return this year for a breast revision and hairline procedure with Revitalise. Thank you so much for everything especially Teona and Abbi ❤️Posted on Google alison richardsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The whole process from start to finish was very slick, friendly and professional. I was met at the airport by a lovely driver and there was another young lady with me as well. We were dropped to the villa and given some soup which was nice. Next day I had my surgery. Deep plane facelift, neck lift, temporal brow lift and upper eyes. Everything went well and I spent the next 6 nights at the villa recovering. It’s a lovely place to stay and you can even just pick oranges off the trees! They are super delicious. I walked down to the sea one day as well. There are a couple of mini markets you can buy things from. I 100% recommend this clinic to anyone looking to have surgery. It takes all the stress out of it and they even found the flights for me! One lady who was there with me had been there 6 times and when she told me her age I very nearly fell off my chair lol! Will definitely be back possibly for teeth. Thank you all so much and see you again :-)Posted on Google Karen longTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am almost 4 weeks post op, I had a Mummy Makeover. I am delighted with my results. The care received from all was amazing. I will be going back later this year. Thank you all.Posted on Google Arzu AltanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Me and my husband went for dental implants in Izmir and after a couple of months evaluating options we choose Revitalize. It was the best decision! We have just completed the second phase of our treatment last Monday and we couldn´t be happier. It is true, it is not painless as the say, but all in all worthed the disconforth we had, during same (few) steps. For sure, if an acquaintance of ours wish to perform outstanding oral surgery at a very good price, we will sure recomend Revitalize.Posted on Google Gill BrownTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just been to Revitalize for my second time. For someone going alone for surgery which is obviously a scary experience I highly recommended this company. They took fantastic care of me the whole way through and everything is super professional. The staff are all very kind and the accommodation is lovely. Since I've come home they have answered my queries right away too. I met some really great other people at the villa and enjoyed getting to know them and our meal times together. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Revitalize if you are considering it 😊Posted on Google Paula Deveney-SwanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had an extended Tummy Tuck in February 2024. The service was outstanding. On arriving the driver was waiting for me to take me to the villa. The villa is just amazing, helpful friendly and experienced staff on call 24/7 The surgeon was friendly and informative The hospital was spotless, I stayed for 1 night before going back to the villa to recover for a further 8 nights The room at the villa had everything I needed and pull cords should help have been needed, thankfully it wasn’t. The grounds and pool were perfect, unfortunately I could only look at the pool due to surgery. February 2025 and I’m back, this time for breast reduction and uplift. Again can’t find fault in anything. Staff always on hand to help, hospital and villa spotless. What next ……Posted on Google Sonia BramleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unparalleled service and care provided. Their unique set up of providing pre- and post-operative support is incredible. You have 24/7 on site support as well as residing with patients undergoing similar procedures. Their English speaking surgeons really listen and treat you as individuals rather than a conveyor belt of procedures. The camaraderie that you build at the villa is unmatchable. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.

ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Who is a good candidate for knee replacement surgery?
Knee replacement surgery is suitable for people with severe knee pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or knee damage that has not improved with medication, physiotherapy, injections, or other conservative treatments.
How long does knee replacement surgery take?
The procedure typically takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on whether a partial or total knee replacement is being performed and the complexity of the surgery.
How long will I need to stay in Turkey?
Most patients stay in Turkey for around 5–7 days following knee replacement surgery to allow for hospital recovery, physiotherapy, follow-up assessments, and clearance from their surgeon before flying home.
When can I walk after knee replacement surgery?
Most patients are encouraged to stand and begin walking with the assistance of a physiotherapist on the same day as surgery or the following day.
How painful is the recovery?
Some pain, swelling, and stiffness are expected during the first few weeks after surgery. These symptoms are managed with pain medication, physiotherapy, and a personalised rehabilitation programme, and improve steadily as healing progresses.
How long does it take to recover?
Most patients return to light daily activities within 4–6 weeks, while full recovery and maximum improvement in strength, flexibility, and knee function typically take between 3 and 6 months.
How long does a knee replacement last?
Modern knee replacements are designed to be highly durable, with many lasting 15–20 years or longer, depending on factors such as age, activity level, weight, and overall health.
Will I need physiotherapy after surgery?
Yes. Physiotherapy is an essential part of recovery and plays a key role in restoring knee movement, strength, flexibility, and function while helping you achieve the best possible long-term outcome.
Is a partial or total knee replacement better?
The most suitable option depends on the extent of damage within your knee. Your orthopaedic surgeon will assess your joint using imaging and clinical examination before recommending either a partial or total knee replacement.
When can I drive after knee replacement surgery?
Most patients can return to driving approximately 4–6 weeks after surgery, provided they can safely control the vehicle and have been cleared by their surgeon.
