What makes FDL tummy tuck different?
A fleur-de-lis (FDL) tummy tuck adds a vertical removal of skin through the middle of the abdomen to the horizontal removal used in a full tummy tuck. This approach may be considered when substantial loose skin remains in more than one direction after weight loss.
FDL, standard and extended tummy tuck
Standard full tummy tuck: excess tissue is removed through a lower abdominal incision, with work across the abdomen and usually around the belly button. It is different from a mini tummy tuck, which treats a smaller lower-abdominal area.
Fleur-de-lis: the additional midline excision leaves a vertical scar as well as the lower horizontal scar. Your surgeon should show why that extra excision is needed for your pattern of loose skin.
