Buttock implants in Turkey from South Africa: a plain guide

Buttock implant surgery uses shaped silicone implants to add size, projection and roundness to the buttocks. It is often chosen by people who do not have enough spare fat for a Brazilian butt lift, or who want a more predictable increase in volume. For South African patients, the parts that need extra planning are sitting during recovery, the length of stay and the ten-hour flight home.

In short: South Africans can have buttock implant surgery in Turkey with an e-Visa and a direct flight to Istanbul, then a short connection to İzmir. The operation usually takes around two hours. Most patients are cleared to fly after five to seven days, but sitting is limited early on and the flight home takes around ten hours, so the surgeon may ask you to stay longer.

Implants or a BBL?

A BBL uses your own fat, taken by liposuction, so it needs enough fat to transfer. Implants do not, which is why they suit slimmer patients and those with naturally flat buttocks. If your concern is sagging rather than size, a buttock lift may be the better fit. Our buttock shaping guide and body contouring guide compare the options, and the buttock implant treatment page has full details.

Who it suits

  • People with naturally flat or under-projected buttocks who want more volume and shape
  • People without enough spare body fat for a BBL
  • People close to their target weight who can keep it stable
  • People in good general health who do not smoke, or can stop before surgery

Suitability is confirmed only after a surgeon has reviewed your medical history, photographs and goals.

How long to stay, and the flight home

To protect the implants you avoid direct pressure on the buttocks and sleep on your front or side in the first days. You recover at Mandarin Grove with nursing checks on dressings and any drains, which, if used, usually come out between days four and seven. Sitting stays limited, or is done on a special cushion, and you wear a compression garment. Most patients are cleared to fly after five to seven days. A long-haul flight means many hours seated and a higher risk of blood clots, so the surgeon decides when it is safe for you to fly and what precautions to take.

  • Book a return ticket you can change
  • Wear your compression garment on the flight as instructed
  • Choose an aisle seat, stand and walk regularly, and drink water
  • Tell us at the start about any history of blood clots, smoking or hormone medication
  • Take the written details of your implants home for your GP

Recovery at home

Over weeks two to six swelling settles and light daily activities return, while prolonged pressure on the buttocks is still avoided. Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, running and lower-body training wait until the surgeon clears you. Over three to six months the implants settle into their final position and the buttocks reach their final shape and projection.

Follow-up continues by photograph, message and video call with the same team; Turkey is only one hour ahead of South Africa. Keep your GP informed. Complications and clinically necessary revisions within a year are covered by our treatment guarantee; that treatment is done in İzmir, and flights and accommodation remain your own responsibility.

Risks

The risks are discussed openly at consultation. They include swelling, bruising, temporary numbness, fluid collection (seroma) and slow wound healing, and less often bleeding, infection, blood clots, implant displacement, implant rupture and changes in skin sensation.

What decides the cost

We do not quote prices here; after a surgeon’s review you receive a written treatment plan and quotation. The cost depends on the implants and technique the surgeon recommends, whether anything else is done at the same time, and how long you stay. South African medical schemes generally do not cover elective surgery abroad, so check with yours.

What we will not do

We will not confirm a plan before a board-certified surgeon has reviewed you, we will not promise a particular size or shape, and we will not operate if your health makes it unsafe. A long journey is not a reason to combine more than the surgeon judges safe. See clinic facts and our complaints page.

Frequently asked questions

How long after buttock implants can I fly home to South Africa?

The surgeon decides. Most patients are cleared to fly after five to seven days, but because the flight home takes around ten hours, South African patients may be asked to stay longer.

What is the difference between buttock implants and a BBL?

A BBL moves your own fat into the buttocks, so it needs enough fat to transfer. Buttock implants use silicone implants instead, and suit people who are slim or want a more predictable increase in volume.

How do I sleep and sit after buttock implants?

In the first days you sleep on your front or side and avoid direct pressure on the buttocks. Sitting is limited, or done on a special cushion, until the surgeon says otherwise.

When will I see the final result?

The implants settle into their final position over three to six months, as swelling resolves and the buttocks reach their final shape.

Will my medical aid cover buttock implants?

South African medical schemes generally do not cover cosmetic surgery abroad, and standard travel insurance usually excludes planned treatment. Ask both specifically before you book.
