About the Procedure;

Zirconium Porcelain Crowns

Zirconium porcelain crowns are dental restorations made from a strong, biocompatible ceramic material known as zirconia, designed to cover and protect damaged or aesthetically compromised teeth. Unlike traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, zirconium crowns do not contain a metal substructure, allowing for improved light transmission and a more natural tooth-like appearance. The procedure typically involves reshaping the affected tooth, taking precise digital or physical impressions, and placing a custom-made crown that is securely bonded over the tooth. Zirconium crowns are known for their durability, resistance to chipping, and compatibility with surrounding gum tissue, making them a widely used option in modern restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

What Happens During Your Surgery

Step-by-Step

Step 1 - Preparation

The process begins with a detailed dental examination, including assessment of tooth structure, gum health, and bite alignment. The treatment plan is discussed, and the shade of the zirconium crown is selected to match natural teeth.

Step 2 - Incision

No incisions will be utilized for this procedure.

Step 3 - Core Procedure

The affected tooth is carefully reshaped to create space for the crown. Any decay or old restorations are removed, and the tooth is prepared to ensure proper fit and stability of the crown. Precise digital or physical impressions are taken to design a custom zirconium crown. The crown is then fabricated to match the patient’s natural teeth in shape, size, and color.

Step 4 - Closure

Once ready, the zirconium crown is placed onto the prepared tooth and securely bonded. Final adjustments are made to ensure proper fit and bite alignment.

Step 5 - Recovery Room

The patient is able to leave the clinic shortly after the procedure. Instructions are provided regarding oral hygiene, eating habits, and care of the new crown.

Medical Candidacy

– Teeth that are damaged, weakened, or structurally compromised – Discoloured or aesthetically affected teeth not responsive to whitening – Patients requiring full coverage restorations for protection or function – Sufficient healthy tooth structure to support a crown – Good overall oral health and healthy gum condition – Patients seeking a metal-free, natural-looking restoration option – Realistic expectations regarding durability and aesthetic outcomes

Risks & Complications

– Tooth sensitivity – Temporary gum irritation or inflammation – Improper fit or bite misalignment requiring adjustment – Chipping or fracture of the crown (rare with zirconium) – Allergic reaction (very rare due to biocompatible material) – Decay developing under the crown if oral hygiene is poor – Crown loosening or debonding over time – Need for replacement or revision in the long term

Pre-Operative Assessment

Before your procedure, comprehensive diagnostic assessments are carried out to evaluate your overall oral health. These typically include imaging such as an OPG (panoramic) X-ray, which allows the dentist to assess bone density, detect cavities, and identify any underlying dental conditions. In addition, a detailed clinical examination is performed, during which you will have the opportunity to discuss your expectations. This includes preferences regarding tooth colour, shape, and bite alignment. This collaborative approach ensures that the treatment plan is tailored to both your clinical needs and aesthetic goals.

Your Procedure

The preparation involves a detailed dental examination, including assessment of the tooth structure, surrounding gums, and bite alignment. The patient is able to decide their teeth color and shape at this stage. The tooth is reshaped to create sufficient space for the zirconium crown. Cavities or existing restorations are treated or removed to ensure a stable and clean foundation. The crown then is fabricated according with impressions that are taken either digitally or physically and also your expectations. Once ready, the zirconium crown is placed onto the prepared tooth and securely bonded. Final adjustments are made to ensure proper fit and bite alignment.

Zirconium porcelain crowns are advanced dental restorations made from a strong zirconia core layered with porcelain. They are designed to restore damaged or discoloured teeth while providing a natural appearance and long-term durability.
With proper care, zirconium crowns typically last 10–15 years or longer. Their lifespan depends on oral hygiene, lifestyle habits, and regular dental check-ups.
The procedure is generally not painful. Local anaesthesia is used during tooth preparation, ensuring comfort. Mild sensitivity may occur afterwards, but this usually resolves within a few days.
Zirconium porcelain crown treatment is usually completed within 5–7 days, making it suitable for international patients travelling for dental care.
Yes. Zirconium crowns are known for their natural translucency and colour matching, allowing them to blend seamlessly with surrounding teeth.
Zirconium crowns are often preferred because they: Do not contain metal Provide superior aesthetics Reduce the risk of dark lines at the gum margin Are highly biocompatible
A small amount of enamel is removed to allow proper crown placement. This is a controlled and necessary step to ensure a secure and natural fit.

ZIRCONIUM PORCELAIN CROWNS

Zirconia Crowns in Turkey

Zirconia is the dioxide form the the metallic element Zirconium and is similar in properties to a natural diamond, possessing both beauty and strength. After an exact subframe is forged, feldspathic porcelain is built upon it until the perfect crown for is attained. Zirconia crowns are biocompatible – made of material that works well with the bodily tissue; they are very strong and resistant to corrosion, and have optical characteristics similar to the natural tooth (in terms of similarity with natural tooth, all-ceramic / full porcelain crowns offers better characteristics than Zirconia crowns). Zirconia offers superior strength characteristics. And especially in cases where the entire crown is carved (via CAD/CAM technology) from a single block of it (this is termed “monolithic” construction) the number of dentists who choose them for placement on back teeth as an alternative to PFM’s seems to be growing substantially each year.

Emax is more translucent than most Zirconia and therefore lets in more light, if tooth under is dark and needs to be masked out often Zirconia is better.

The ideal use for Zirconia is where substrate it dark or extra strength is needed (full contour). Ideal use for E max, high light transmission wanted and maximum aesthetics.

This type of crown is made from zirconia, a very strong material which is compatible with the human body. Zirconia is used in many other medical applications such as artificial joints and is known for its strength and durability. Zirconia is a type of crystal which is long lasting and indestructible.

Plus there is no fear about the body rejecting zirconia or displaying an allergic reaction to it. It is safe to use and preferred by many people to porcelain fused to metal crowns.

Zirconium Porcelain Crowns 2The quality of the materials is one of the main factor in delivering highest quality work:

There are different types of zirconia crowns, beginning with excellent crowns to imitations. At our clinic, as a rule, we work with only best materials available.

The excellence of dentists and lab technicians (ceramists):

Most natural looking crowns are the ones made by a great artist. That means,  it is not only the material but also the dentist and lab technician. We are working with the best lab technicians (ceramists) who are amongst to top technicians in whole Europe. We don’t do fabricated works (on the contrary of what most of the dental laboratories are doing). Our ceramists team is working on each crown one by one in order to achieve the maximum aesthetic result. This is one of the vital part of the cosmetic dentistry. Most of the patients do not have enough information about the importance of the dental technicians in the process of delivering the best result. Some dentists even does not give too much importance to this point. The reality is that the best result can be attained working with the best technicians with the best materials in their hands.

Disadvantages of a Zirconia Crown

The tough, durable nature of a zirconia crown can work against it as well as in its favour. This material has an abrasive quality which can cause friction against the root of the tooth as well as other teeth.
